As with goalkeepers, there aren’t a huge amount of quality defenders available for free at the start of your FIFA 17 Career. The game is particularly lacking in decent full-back options, but there’s one notable exception. Portuguese LB Antunes is 29 years old, and with 11 international caps to his name, the former Malaga defender comes with significant pedigree.

Antunes is a modern two-way full back who excels in both attack and defence, through his high/medium workrate suggests his instincts lie in the former. Nonetheless, Antunes solid tackling (82 sliding, 79 standing), marking (74) and interception stats (80) mean he’s capable of holding his own at the back, and his 86 stamina will keep him bombing up the byline for the whole game.

Going forward, Antunes has 81 acceleration, 84 sprint speed, and 74 dribbling. He’s capable of getting into some great positions, but he’s not a fish out of water when he gets there: Antunes has 82 for crossing, and, surprisingly, 87 for shot power and 84 long shots. Resembling a low-rent Roberto Carlos, Antunes is a real danger with the ball at his feet, though it can be tricky to move the ball onto his preferred left foot before shooting.
