FIFA 17: 10 Players Who Will Be Downgraded
7. Theo Walcott
Theo Walcott has approached a crossroads in his career. The 27-year-old is entering the 12th season of his career at the Emirates and by all accounts, he should be approaching his peak. However, it would appear that his best years could be behind him.
He has been struggling to regain his form of the 13/14 season, where he netted 21 goals and looked as though he was finally realising his potential as a prolific finisher for the Gunners. He has netted just 24 in total in the three seasons since then, as he has been dealt a succession of injuries including a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament which sidelined him for half the 13/14 season and the World Cup.
So while bad luck robbed him of a tournament place two years ago, there was no ill fortune this time out as Walcott had nobody to blame but himself for his omission. Chosen as the young wildcard ten years ago, the Arsenal winger will have known exactly what Marcus Rashford will have been feeling at the shock inclusion, but it is only now that he has come to understand Darren Bent’s pain in 2006.
Walcott’s career looks to be on a gradual slide, and having ended last season marginalised, it looks as though his days in North London could be numbered.
