FIFA 17: 10 Players Who Will Be Downgraded

4. Mario Gotze

Two years ago, Mario Gotze was responsible for deciding the fate of the most important accolade in world football. Just last month, he meekly returned with tail firmly between legs to the club he’d previously backstabbed, grovelling for forgiveness in a bid to salvage a fledgling career.

The moment Mario Gotze announced he was trading his boyhood Borussia Dortmund for arch-rivals Bayern Munich, just a week before their Champions League final, he was dead to many in the Westfalenstadion. So they would have taken great joy in watching him gradually crumble under the stifling weight of expectation and regimented Guardiola-ball at Bayern Munich.

While not having set the world alight during his first two seasons, he still bagged a combined 30 goals. It was last year where he truly failed to deliver, his contributions yielding just the three league goals.

He looked completely devoid of confidence at Euro 2016 when asked to operate as the lone striker, and will be looking to get back on track at the place where he made his name. What kind of reception he’ll get is anyone’s guess.
