FIFA 17 Demo: 10 Hands-On Impressions You Need To Know
5. Speed Kills Once Again
It's understandable why EA Sports removed some of the overpowered nature of rapid players over the past few games. In fairness, it makes FIFA better if one player can't just run at the defence with Lionel Messi and beat them all for pace. However, there's also a fine balance that the developers previously didn't capture.
Speed is an important part of real football, it's one skill that often separates the best teams from those churning out draws at the bottom of the league table. Take Leicester City from last season as a classic example, they used Jamie Vardy's lightning quick pace to their advantage, and that was stripped away in FIFA 16.
Now, speed has roared back into contention as one of the most threatening skills in FIFA 17. Faster players like Vardy and Eden Hazard can completely tear the opposing team's defensive line to shreds. That's exactly how it should be, although obviously it doesn't work all of the time.
You still can't just spam the sprint button for an easy shot at goal, some guile is necessary. Thankfully though, sprinting seems important once again.
