FIFA 18: 10 Things EA Need To Steal From PES

5. Individual Player Attributes Make A Difference

Speaking of which, why is it so bloody difficult to sprint past even the oldest of defenders with speed merchants like Cristiano Ronaldo in FIFA 17? Worse, it seems like the CPU has been programmed to ensure nobody has a clear advantage in a foot race. That's just not like real football.

EA should be commended for attempting to eliminate unrealistic dribbles that beat 10 players, but in doing so they have stripped away one of the game's best features. In other words, it's not realistic that Ronaldo couldn't outrun Per Mertesacker and skip past the Arsenal CB with lightning quickness before bearing down on goal.

In PES, those individual player attributes make a real difference to how each game plays out. Facing Real Madrid as Swansea shouldn't see the Welsh club's defence matching CR7 move for move like they're reading his mind. PES gets that distinctiveness right, whereas FIFA's apparent fear of speed requires a rethink.
