FIFA 18: 10 Things EA Need To Steal From PES

4. Tactical Depth

FIFA is a much more scripted experience all-round compared to PES, and this becomes more obvious when analysing how tactics work across both games. In EA's world, almost every team plays the same kind of style, driving up the middle to exploit through balls and playing intricate passes around the box to find space for a shot.

PES adopts a different approach, and it's shockingly open to player interpretation. Make no mistake about it, you can get thumped by even the weakest of teams in Konami land if you don't set the team up correctly and play to the strengths of key players.

Tactical nouse isn't essential to playing PES, but it does open the game up and lend itself to the idea of actual management. The sheer number of options can be overwhelming, yet they trod all over FIFA's more modest 'attack full force or park the bus' outlook. FIFA 18 needs to let tactics change whether player-controlled teams have the ball or don't, instead of merely offering up one play style.
