FIFA 18 Top 100: 7 Biggest Surprises

7. Boateng's Fall From Grace (8th to 33rd)

To quote EA, Boateng was "your top ranked defender" in FIFA 17. Boasting 79 pace, 90 defending and a huge 85 for physical stats, the German was a back line monster. Either other defenders in world football have improved or EA feel Boateng has dipped, because the Bayern Munich man has slipped from 8th to 33rd in time for FIFA 18.

That's a fall of 25 places, and even Jérôme's stats have taken a hit to reflect this. His pace is now 75, defending now 88 and his physical's 84. There are drops all over the place, and that must come as a disappointment to the CB who was previously regarded the best on the planet by EA. Now, he's even behind team mates like Mats Hummels.

His defensive stats still mean Boateng is one of the best, but he's no longer out on his own as FIFA's top defender. Keep that in mind when trying to buy him in Career Mode too; theoretically, Boateng should be a little cheaper now he's a year older and his stats have dropped.
