FIFA 18 Wishlist: 10 Things That Must Be Included
6. Better Set Pieces
Set pieces and penalties have been a huge bugbear among FIFA fans for years, and 17 saw some radical changes. The penalty system was completely rebuilt, and on your first few attempts, they feel absolutely atrocious. Things improve with practice, of course, but it’s way too difficult to find the corners with any level of consistency, and the new system is too fiddly and awkward for the average player to ever truly master.
The new corner system is functional, and it definitely gives you a lot more precision with your aim, but they’re still tricky to score from. While mastering a well-drilled set piece routine can be a vital component of any team’s attacking arsenal in real-life, finishing from corners is unrealistically difficult in FIFA 17.
FIFA’s new momentum system has been panned by a huge section of the series’ fanbase, and understandably so. Getting a firm grasp of it is incredibly difficult, and it is particularly problematic on free kicks. Frankly, the old power/curl mechanic was far more intuitive, and made set pieces a lot more fun to execute. There’s a lot to be said about momentum’s increased level of control, but it has come at the cost of playability.
