FIFA 19 Demo Review: 3 Ups & 3 Downs

If hearing that Champions League anthem doesn't hit you right in the feels, nothing will...

FIFA 19 Demo
EA Sports

As predicted before it happened by all and sundry, FIFA 19's demo dropped on Thursday afternoon, a fortnight or so before the full game releases on 28 September. Good news: it's a winner for the most part, and it's a blast to play as teams like Real Madrid in the Santiago Bernabéu or city rivals Atlético in their cavernous Wanda Metropolitano.

10 teams are available in all, and the demo allows you to get to grips with some new gameplay mechanics in a one-off Champions League group stage match. Elsewhere, there are some standard pre-match training drills, a teaser for The Journey: Champions (which is set to be Alex Hunter's swan song) and the usual EA 'BUY IT NOW' buttons splashed all over the place.

It is a demo, after all.

So, the big question on everyone's lips will be about those sweeping changes EA promised to the action on the pitch. Are they all there? In a word, yes, although it's worth noting that some other hyped tweaks don't exactly do what they say on the tin without some imagination from the player...
