Final Fantasy: 15 Most Brutal Boss Battles

7. Omega (FFV)

Warmech might be the first 'super-boss' of Final Fantasy in spirit, but in actuality the honour belongs to the not-so-dissimilar Omega from the vastly underrated fifth game in the series. Like Warmech, Omega is an abominable automaton, but one many degrees more formidable.

It's bad enough that Omega begins battle with a Reflect buff which cannot be dispelled, but throw in the unnecessarily twattish Circle attack - a move which kills a party member who subsequently cannot be revived - and we're talking about the most soul-destroying battle the franchise had seen.

Again, preparation is the key, and deducing that the robot is susceptible to Stop is paramount to survival. But why anyone would go into such a difficult battle with a bard in their party is unclear. So once more, death begets hindsight.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
