Whilst the holy trinity of Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX should be your first port of call if you want to "get" why the series is such a world-dominating force of entertainment, FF7R carries enough of those core ideologies to make it worthwhile.

Oversized swords, snappy engaging combat, a great levelling system that encourages experimentation. Metrosexual characters, sci-fi-meets-fantasy backings and an epic tale of one group "trying to make a difference" are all here.

Whilst they're done better elsewhere, you'll likely enjoy this notion of a hand-crafted universe of bespoke rules, societies and military factions bouncing off one another, that it'll encourage you to try another.
