Final Fantasy 7 Remake: 10 Biggest Questions Answered
6. Does It Solve The Turn-Based Combat Problem?
While I maintain that if the turn-based combat detractors actually gave it a chance, they'd love it, there's always been a sizeable amount of people who hate the idea of commanding a character to do something, versus doing it directly.
With that in mind, yes, FF7R totally solves that problem.
Combat here is a hybridisation of old-school turn-based "thinking" (when to switch characters, queue up spells or items, and how to combo them together), plus going all-out like a Devil May Cry action game.
Think of it more like the "pause and think" likes of squad commands in Mass Effect, with the overall thrust of combat being very much active.
