The Midgar Zolom is going to be even more terrifying.

After years of demand, speculation and build up, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is official, and heading our way early 2020.

A highlight for many is the spectacular boss battles throughout the game, and many longterm Final Fantasy fans are looking forward to seeing how those carry over to the Remake, 20 years since they fought them in the PS1 original.

Another thing to note is that FF VII was originally a stand-alone release, whereas the remake is going to be episodic. This means that not all the bosses are going to be in the initial release, focused around the events in Midgar, and it is also likely that the Remake and corresponding episodes will introduce new big bads, likely dropping or changing others.

Nevertheless, the 10 bosses coming up are highlights of the game and are likely to appear in one episode of the remake. Hopefully we don’t have to wait so long for the follow up episodes so we can see these fantastic battles on modern or even next-gen consoles.

Renamed Scorpion Sentinel, and featuring prominently in some of the trailers, this boss was the first one you fought in FF7, and likely will be in the Remake too.

In FF VII Remake it looks to be a boss that introduces to a number of key features in the updated battle system, such as a stagger bar and a cover system.

It retains some of the key features of the original battle, including the Tail Laser. This time you’ll be using the battlefield to hide from this attack. Previously you didn’t see this trademark attack if you knew what you were doing, but due to one of many mistranslations, you probably attacked and got countered with this.

What was quite a simple boss has grown into a spectacular looking battle, and the boss seems to feature a number of new attacks and different stages.

If an early boss like this can be developed so well, it really whets the appetite for what’s to come from the rest of the game.
