7. Final Fantasy X-2
The first ever proper sequel to a main Final Fantasy was FFX-2. It followed on from the end of FFX and was practically a complete opposite game to FFX. Where FFX was primarily linear in story and gameplay, FFX-2 was very, very open, in both departments. The best part about FFX-2 however, was its battle system which was a further update to the job system. It wasn't just the job system either, as with its ATB system too, the combat flowed very well. Frenetic action took place on screen as your characters could intercept enemy attacks and build a combo chain to inflict more damage. This was, quite possibly, the best battle system in the FF series - certainly using the ATB gauge mechanic at least. Couple that with the aforementioned job system, which allowed great variety in skills and attributes for each character individually and as a team. The weak part of FFX-2 is undoubtedly its story. While Yuna and Rikku return as main characters, they play more significance in the side-quests and side-stories rather than in the main story, which revolves around two new characters, Lenne and Shuyin. Unfortunately, most FFX fans won't really care for Lenne and Shuyin, for although their story somewhat resembles Tidus and Yuna's they are wholly different characters that are much harder to relate to. At its best though, FFX-2 still has its charms even in its story. The main meat here though was the quality battle system.
