Final Fantasy XV: 5 Awesome Things (And 5 That Suck)

4. There's A Crippling 'Weakened State' For HP And MP

The thing that'll forever hamper your enjoyment of the combat is a divisively slow 'wounded state' where your abilities are locked until you find health or take cover, and a 'Stasis' mode you'll fall into if you expend too much MP. The latter is easy to micro-manage as normal attacks don't drain MP, but the former is a huge pain. In particular, against the Behemoth boss who can sap your health away in seconds, getting stuck in a loop of trying to heal so you can move whilst he continually animates faster and swipes you back into the red is just bad design. Apparently magic wasn't ready to be included in the demo build, and maybe there are more overarching options you can do to tell the A.I. where to go and what to do in the aforementioned pause mode, but right now the thrill of 'four guys killin' stuff in the woods' is severely hampered by awkward-feeling, unresponsive controls, crippling wounded states and a total lack of tactile feedback for your actions. If FF insists on going down this action-focussed route, it has to get these things spot on.
