Last-minute goals are sweet, but unearthing a South American gem, signing him to a pre-contract and watching him flourish in your reserves before dominating the world with pace, power and skill is so much sweeter. After the first season of consolidating any team, a manager's number one priority has surely got to be investing in some younger talent, especially if the transfer budget is flowing with riches. Forget homegrown talent, flooding the reserves with the world's top youngsters is the key to success, but some restraint needs to be shown with regards to hot prospects. SI needs to ensure that some not every young player has the potential to be a star. It should be more difficult to find and poach tomorrow's heroes, while development should be unpredictable. Some wonderkids destined for big things shouldn't fulfil their potential, while some kids should rapidly grow from nowhere, and others should be late bloomers, peaking late, Drogba-style.
