Football Manager 2020 Tactics: How To Play 4–4–2 The Burnley Way
1. Play For Set Pieces
It’s the 85th minute. You’re a goal up thanks to a thunderous header from your no nonsense striker. Going for a second would be risky, meaning it’s time to grind this victory out.
Have a checklist that you go through when it’s squeaky bum time. Slide up Time Wasting, put on Be More Disciplined and finally go with Play For Set Pieces. The last one might not be the obvious choice but it can help take the wind out the other side’s sails and slow the game down.
The approach tells your players to play for free kicks, throw-ins and corners to help you have a better chance of scoring from set pieces. In our case we want to break play up and waste as much time as possible. Scoring another from a dead ball delivery is a bonus. It’s from the Dark Arts playbook but we’re not looking to make friends, we’re here to win football games. Somewhere in Manchester Pep Guardiola just felt a shiver down his spine.
