Club: KRC Genk

Nationality: Belgian

Price: £12 million

Similar to Alban Lafont, Maarten Vandervoordt has become somewhat of a go-to early purchase for many a savvy FM player across the past couple of years.

It may take some time to get there, but Vandervoordt eventually becomes one of the best goalkeepers in the game on previous releases. In Football Manager 2022, it's again very much same old, same old for this young Belgian.

Matching his real-life improvements over the past year, the 19-year-old is now a smidge costlier than in the past few seasons, but he's still a relative snip at a price of approximately £12 million. For any big teams, this is an investment well worth making and then sending Vandervoordt out on loan to a decent level with decent facilities so that he reaps the rewards of first team football.

In addition to Maarten's goalkeeping stats starting off solid - 14s for both reflexes and one on ones - he's also very much a player who's a modern 'keeper. By that, it means he's good with his feet, as highlighted by a 15 passing stat and 14 for kicking. Considering these are his numbers at just 19 years of age, Vandervoordt is a must-buy for those who like to have a starting GK who is comfortable in possession.
