In addition to player roles, each individual player can also have their own set of player traits, which essentially act as a player’s characteristics while they are out on the field. These traits can be good or bad depending on what you are expecting from a player, and can range from a player wanting to dictate the tempo of a game to a player having a tendency to argue with officials or diving into tackles.

Thankfully, you can try and train a player to add or remove traits, allowing you to mould your players to fit in with your given playstyle and tactic. You can even receive suggestions from your backroom staff on what traits would suit certain players, which is also something that you will receive advice on during the new staff meetings that have been added in this years iteration of the game.

It's worth noting that you will need to pay attention to Player Traits when thinking about a players' role within your team as often these can contradict each other. For instance, playing a striker that has the 'gets forward whenever possible' trait as a Deep Lying Forward will contradict the instructions for that player role.
