Football Manager 2022 Review: 8 Ups And 2 Downs

4. Attention To Detail Is Rewarded

Your writer included, a lot of us Football Manager fans can be accused of setting up our team and tactical approach, then simply letting things play out. Sure, we'll make the odd sub or two as the second half of a match properly gets going, but, on a purely tactical basis, things often tend to just be left as is.

On FM22, such lack of care can see your all-dominant 3-0 lead quickly turned around to a 4-3 loss.

Much like FM22 encourages you to manage the fitness of your squad, it also encourages you to be on the ball with every minute of a match. For example, if that all-dominant 3-0 lead sees you decide to tweak your tactics to slow down the play or drop deeper once you get to, say, the 70-minute mark, chances are that attentive approach will result in a 3-0 win.

Just simply going 'as is' for the rest of the game can come back to bite you on the backside, particularly if you like to employ a high, constant press. Those players will be utterly knackered when a match enters its final stages, which in turn makes for slack passes, poor decision making, and erratic positioning.
