Gears 5: 10 Characters We NEED In Multiplayer
From graphic novels to the expanding universe, these Gears deserve a spot in the limelight.
The Gears franchise has plenty of amazing and original characters with a surprising amount of expanded universe cast members to boot.
Gears 5 is already chock full of over 37 Gears and Swarm folk to choose from in multiplayer. 18 of those were added as unlockable DLC through the online Operation bundles. As with each Operation release, the game typically adds upwards from three new playable characters. Operation 3 changed things up by adding a whopping six with the inclusion of the Carmine brothers.
Prior to that, fans also got the chance to unlock the Locust sniper, Jerrod. The Cyclops spectacled marksman was an original creation for the Gears comic books and worked under General RAAM. The inclusion of Jerrod changes everything as we could see even more of the expanded universe brought onboard in the future.
It is important to note that The Coalition is also not afraid to add special guest characters like with the Halo Reach and Terminator releases. For the sake of wild speculation, we'll be looking at characters exclusively from the existing Gears canon including games, comics, and novels.
11. Honourable Mention: Lambent Skins
With so much love being shown to older and classic skins within the game it would be fun to see the Lambent again.
The Lambent had always received mixed views from fans and can best be compared to the Batmobile in Arkham Knight. Gears of War 3 just seemed to go a bit overkill with how many Lambent they seemed to throw at the player.
The natural progression then saw the rise of the Swarm as a successor to the Locust rather than the Lambent with the latter being forgotten to the ages. The main problem wasn't with the Lambent but with just how iconic the Locust Horde had become. It was no surprise that the new series of games would lean more towards the franchise roots but that doesn't mean to say the Lambent should not return in some capacity.
The terrifying glowing ghouls would make excellent skins for the existing Swarm characters and allow for some cool lighting effects and animations when they are killed. For the sake of gameplay, these skins still should not create an explosion as that would make them insanely overpowered.
Still, a brief flash of glowing goo would make the kills look pretty impressive.
