Gears Of War 4 Review: 7 Ups & 7 Downs
1. The Terrible, Abrupt Ending
Probably the most vocal complaint about GoW4's campaign so far is its ending, which comes incredibly suddenly, provides little in terms of internal resolution and simply throws up a dozen more questions largely in pursuit of selling Gears of War 5 to you.
A cliffhanger was definitely expected, but too was the hope that this game would conclude with a self-contained arc that felt complete and well-developed. Instead, once the final battle is done with, things close out with so much left hanging, when something more fleshed-out would've benefited everyone involved.
Sure, most people who bought this will probably buy Gears 5, but plenty more convincing ways to promote that game could pretty much be plucked out of thin air.
