Gears Of War 4: 10 Big Things That Must Happen

5. Be A Worthwhile Addition To The Story

For everything Gears of War 3 did right (which is to say, everything, that game was spectacular) aside from a certain very poignant moment with Dom, it felt like more of the same story-wise. There weren't too many big points made about the world itself or the situation humanity found itself in outside of the intro - you were for the most part just 'playing more Gears', even if that was more than enough for another title at the time. But again, to refer to Judgment, 'just more Gears' isn't enough to float any project above the waterline, and whatever happens within Gears 4 in terms of how it expands the mythos itself has to be significant. With the aforementioned tweet in the last point alluding to the team being far enough along to perhaps release a demo, it'll be Microsoft's first major next-gen debut for a household-name first-party franchise. They need to get it right, and it can't just feel like an excuse to go chainsaw more chest cavities in half.
