Gears Of War 4: 10 Big Things That Must Happen

6. Weapon Mods

Considering all the razor-sharp doohickeys and protruding bits of death that are jutting out of every part of something like the Torque Bow, you have to imagine one of the design team over at Black Tusk has sat with a handful of weapon design sheets and thought "Y'know, that would look great on the side of that." Customising weapons is something that titles like Borderlands, Destiny and Dragon Age build their games on, but it's also a great unexpected inclusion in something like Metal Gear Solid 4 where although the weapons you have do the job nicely, it's fun to play around with how mods feel in-game. Original Gears designer Cliff Bleszinski once remarked that the way players explore the world of something like Gears is through the barrel of a gun. What can be shot at? How does that feel? What am I going to take down next? And how does al of that effect the physics of the world itself? Opening up the creative side of fans - not with just weapon skins - and letting them get crazy with something like a hybrid Torque Bow that packs a smaller set of under-mounted Lancer blades would go a long way towards replayability and multiplayer domination.
