God Of War: Ranking The 10 Best Boss Battles
6. Ares - God Of War
The culmination of the first game's story, Kratos' emotional journey, and the mechanics built in to the game's learning curve, this boss battle is a delight of gameplay and storytelling. It has the added bonus of acting as an inciting incident for the rest of the series, and is made all the better by the prequel games, building Kratos' desire for vengeance even more than the first game alone.
The battle with Ares is a joy to play, with Kratos opening Pandora's Box and growing to match the enormity of his foe, it feels like you have finally become one of the huge monsters you've spent so long killing, and the psyche-based stage is a great character moment, with Kratos fighting dark reflections of himself to save his family, serving as the perfect example of him fighting his inner demons.
The final blow on Ares isn't the most violent of the series, but it is easily one of the most satisfactory ends to a God ever seen.
