Grand Theft Auto 6: 8 Insane Rumours We Hope Are True
6. The Series' First Female Protagonist
Grand Theft Auto has done strong female characters before, like Kendl Johnson and Catalina, but none of them have ever been playable.
GTA 6 could be the game to buck that trend, if the reports are to be believed. This is another rumours multiple outlets have picked up, but Rockstar has addressed the matter head-on in the past.
During an interview with The Guardian conducted in the wake of GTA 5's release, studio head Dan Houser admitted the firm has toyed with the idea of a leading lady and is waiting for the right game to introduce her.
“In the future, could we do a game with a female lead? Of course. We just haven’t found the right game for it yet, but it’s one of the things that we always think about. It didn’t feel natural for this game but definitely for the right game in the future - with the right themes, it could be fantastic. But for GTA 5, this was the organic thing that came up, these were the characters that would display the themes we wanted.”
Female protagonists are all the rage right now - Wonder Woman was a box office smash and even Doctor Who is turning into one - so this would be a good move on Rockstar's part, and one that could be incorporated organically if they're revisiting the multi-character format.
Although GTA has depicted strong supporting ladies in the past, the developer still has critics to answer on this front, which is usually what happens when your games are full of murdered prostitutes.
