GTA V: 10 Reasons Why We Need a New Hero

4. R* Rarely Repeat Themselves

To take a look at R*€™s output out of context and without prior knowledge of each game, you€™d be forgiven for thinking they were something of a one trick pony. Almost every title under their huge umbrella is a sandbox shooter (although there are a few exceptions; Midnight Club for example). However when you actually sit down to play, you soon realise that R* are in fact amazing innovators; sure, they stick to a genre, but they rarely repeat themselves. And in my view, they shouldn€™t start to do so with GTA V. You only have to play two different GTA games, to see how vastly different yet subtly similar they are, to have this reiterated. But then if you put on say, Red Dead Redemption you€™ll see that, while it retains much of what made GTA so compellingly playable, it€™s also so innovative and unique that you€™d swear some other company made it if you didn€™t know better. It€™s safe to say that R* rarely say something that they€™ve already said in a previous title, which is why I€™m totally sceptical about the idea of GTA V featuring a returning protagonist. They€™re all about looking to the future, about saying €œwhat€™s next€ as opposed to €œhow do we capitalize on our past successes€. And hey, isn€™t that the reason we love €˜em so much?
