GTA V: 10 Reasons Why It Might Not Be Awesome

4. Three Protagonists

Three

The big make or break introduction to GTA V is the increased number of protagonists. Throughout the game's history there€™s only ever been one protagonist per game, evolving from nameless mutes to people with as much character as the city they€™re in. But we're a little wary three could be over egging it a bit.

From the character trailers released so far, there's no denying each character looks to be a unique person, with redneck Trevor a particular favourite. But as it stands, it's still too early to call the success of this gamble. There€™s no real word on how long the story will be, but even at a whopping thirty or forty hours that€™s still the equivalent of a short game in each character€™s direct company. Obviously we spent less time with Luis or Johnn in GTA IV's expansions and they€™re as ingrained in our minds as Niko, but they were living in a city we already knew well; can the new characters compete with such a large map and each other for our attention?

From pre-release information, switching between the trio is incredibly easy, but for them to truly work, they need to not only be three great personalities, but have exciting motivations. And as we€™ll see on the next point, that seems unlikely.
