4. Play As A Cop
Although you could argue Battlefield: Hardline has fluffed its chance at being
the new-age cop game, its reliance on 80's-style serial police dramas is leaving a sour taste in more fans than EA must've thought. However, as
Hotline Miami 2 proved with its Detective character, having to get stuck into a seedy underbelly of violence and macabre imagery whilst holding onto your morals is a really enticing prospect. Going crazy and causing unabashed mayhem has its place, but cleaning up the streets whilst having the ability to dabble in some dirty deeds or money-exchanges would be an awesome test of character. If you've seen The Shield you'll know exactly how with the right amount of with the right portrayal of intent you can show the 'thin blue line' as exactly that; something that's extremely hard to walk when everything is going to hell around you. Grizzly detective/cop shows like this or True Detective would be a perfect starting point in portraying a flawed character who has just the right amount of heart behind their actions despite the mountain of backdoor-scandals and questionable situations they get into, and factoring in GTA V's multiple protagonist angle with another criminal lets you get each other out of scraps or scenarios while showing both sides of the cause at all times.
