Turning every run into God Mode.

Hades took the world by storm as the only indie title that was nominated for Game of the Year. Even though it didn't win, it's since garnered over a hundred awards, with perfect ratings across the board. Many other outlets named it their Game of the Year, and for good reason.

The game is unique in that it strikes a balance between presenting challenging combat that is satisfying, varied, and endlessly replayable, but also being surprisingly welcoming to newbies of the Rogue-like genre, that's known for being tough and punishing.

Though players who are there for the story can use the God Mode feature that allows you to build up damage reduction and make future runs easier, those who want to get better at the gameplay can improve through the game's progressively more difficult additions.

Part of the exquisite polish it was known for was due to the work done on early access. The game has been on early access since 2018, and many in the speed-running community mastered its combat early on, learning the ropes and giving the devs critical feedback.

Throughout their thousands of hours of playtime, speedrunners picked up a lot of interesting tricks along the way.

Here are a few wild gameplay tricks and builds, many of which are favoured by top players, who have been able to beat the game so quickly, the last known fastest run was under six minutes.

10. The Perfect Catch

Not a combat tip, but nonetheless important for game progression, is the elusive Perfect Catch.

When the Rod of Fishing is made available through the House Contractor, the player is able to fish for different creatures of varying value in random parts of the game.

Some fish are common and only yield small rewards when given to the Head Chef, but others are legendary, with large returns if caught, including gems, keys, nectar bottles, and even diamonds, titan blood, and ambrosia for surface fish.

For a lot of players, it's hard to get the Perfect Catch, and even harder to get Legendary fish, but the trick isn't too hard to figure out: All you have to do is use your ears, not your eyes.

The time to catch the fish includes a maximum of four possible pulls. The false ones will have the line dip slightly, but the catch will have it sink below the water with a loud splash.

Reacting to the splash sound effect, rather than the animation of it sinking, will ensure faster catches, and therefore more legendary ones. Many seasoned players can still get legendaries even without looking at the screen.
