5. An End To The Series
ValveFor a long time, what has since become known as Half-Life 3 was expected to be Half-Life 2: Episode Three. Since the release of the second episode, all we've seen is three pieces of concept art so far though. Now expected to be a full new entry in the series, many fans are hoping that Half-Life 3 will serve to fully wrap up the Half-Life story. Video games often have a tendency to draw out storylines unnecessarily, as long as sales remain strong, and a complete, finished trilogy is exactly what Valve's esteemed series deserves. From what we've seen so far, the games fit the pattern of a trilogy thematically. Half-Life saw the origins of the Resonance Cascade, and the introduction of Freeman and various alien races. Half-Life 2 depicted the struggle of mankind as the Combine have used the Cascade to their advantage and taken over Earth. Half-Life 3 has the potential to cap off the story nicely, with humans hopefully seizing Earth and ending the Combine threat.
