Confession time: This hands-on is an amalgamation taken from the various previews that exist online. Red Dead 2 was not present at EGX.

Rockstar are doing it again. Where GTA III revolutionised the idea of game worlds and how missions could be integrated across a large space, Red Dead Redemption 2 apparently has so much detail, so many dynamic interactions and such an immaculate physics system, you can trigger missions or stumble into scenarios by just playing... and seeing what happens.

NoClip's Danny O' Dwyer noted that RDR2 will do for storytelling what GTA III did for open cities, but also that there's a level of interaction with the game world we've seldom seen outside a Bethesda game.

We know from earlier gameplay demos that RDR2 makes the left trigger a conversation button, giving way to a million happenstance interactions that could lead to anything from train robberies to ordering a drink down the saloon.

"Basically the way it’s executed, the whole game makes a mockery of the term “quest” or “sidequest” or “activity”. It’s all just sort of a mush now. Or at least that’s what they’re attempting."

Knowing Rockstar, they'll pull it off.
