Horizon Zero Dawn: 16 Crucial Tips & Tricks The Game Doesn't Tell You
4. How To Climb (Almost) Anything
So the 'climbing mechanics' in Horizon are... well, they're practically non-existent, save for some highlighted yellow or 'white chalk' handholds you'll identify as places Aloy will auto-mantle if you jump close.
However, you still have a dedicated jump button - and if you've played Skyrim - you'll know that all you need is an animation system that recognises a surface for a split-second, before letting you awkwardly repeat-hop your way up the side of a cliff.
Now, it doesn't look elegant, borderline broken in fact, but if you're struggling to get to the next checkpoint and don't want to go all the way around, try jumping and repeatedly mashing the button over and over. With any luck and some perseverance, pointing Aloy towards any remotely horizontal surface will see the two of you channeling the Dragonborn in seconds.
