Horizon Zero Dawn Gameplay Roundup: 11 Things You Need To Know
10. You'll Visit Robotic Dungeons Named 'Cauldrons'
Part of Horizon's appeal lies in figuring out just what the f*ck happened that allowed a super advanced A.I. race to take over in the first place.
You'll get to the bottom of this through all manner of NPC conversations, scavenged items, the main quest thread, and - most intriguingly - dungeons where the robots continually emerge, and appear to be originating.
Named Cauldrons, thanks to Shannon Grixti over at Press Start we know that they're "unforgiving" and "incredibly challenging. A mix of puzzle solving, intense platforming and incredibly challenging battles with robots. They were also incredibly intriguing visually. Think of them as lairs that look like they have a robotic life of their own."
This aspect of Horizon has been seldom seen in in the previews so far - most likely because Guerrilla want it to be a surprise - but it's definitely one of the most intriguing aspects of the lore. The true story of what happened between today's society and that of Horizon's 1000 year post-apocalypse will surely be one of the most interesting reveals of the year, if not the decade - providing they can pull it off.
