4. Metroid Dread
The first home console side-scrolling Metroid in 27 years - and the first to actually continue the story from Metroid Fusion - is cause for a LOT of celebration.
Nintendo appear to be putting their all into the production, making gameplay liquid butter smooth, giving Samus a nice array of abilities, carrying over her deflect-counter from Samus Returns on 3DS, and even fleshing out the lore side of things too.
The whole marketing campaign has played on the fact we haven't had a "2D Metroid" on a home Nintendo system in an age, drip-feeding potential lore reveals and introducing a main villain that looks a lot like the Chozo statues we've interacted with for decades.
With original Metroid designer Yoshio Sakamoto saying this is the end of the story that began WAY back in 1986, Metroid might not be known for set-piece reveals or impactful plot, but this truly feels like something special.
