Isle Of Armor: 10 Highlights From Pokemon's First Expansion
6. Interesting Characters And Deeper Lore
While none of the denizens of the Isle of Armor redefine what it means to be a character in a Pokemon game, the slim cast are all charming nonetheless. Chief among them is the madcap dojo master Mustard, his adoring yet equally intense wife Honey (we see what you did there Game freak...), the aforementioned rivals of course, and then the star of the show; Kubfu!
The real upside to giving a Legendary Pokemon its own story expansion is the ability to delve into lore that would otherwise go untouched for years, or until the anime gets round to it. While Kubfu doesn't have lore on the level of Rayquaza or Giratina, a few cutscenes characterize this adorable new partner well, emphasizing the DLC's themes of growth and making milestones such as evolution feel more significant than arbitrary.
There's also some great tidbits of backstory dropped in through League Cards and an appearance by Hop, as well as some scintilating bits of foreshadowing to the Crown Tundra and future events (which at worst are the Glaraian Star Tournament, at best something no one's seen coming yet).
