9. Ellie's Switchblade
Hey, Ellie has a knife in the Last of Us 2, and it doesn't break constantly like the shivs in the first game every time Joel used them. Hooray!
But did you know that the knife Ellie uses is actually a very important item in the lore of The Last Of Us?
In Part 2, the knife Ellie is using is actually the same switchblade that she had in the first game. This knife is revealed in The Last of Us American Dreams (a spin-off comic series) to originally belong to Ellie's mother, Anna. A good friend of Last of Us 1 character Marlene, Anna gave Marlene and a note to pass on to Ellie, which she does.
This is Ellie's only real interaction with her mother, who she doesn't know much about. So she continues to use the knife in Part 2, partly as a tribute to her mother, and partly to remember what she's lost along the way.
