Immediately accept that the game is four quarters, with multiple breaks throughout. Accept that it is not fluid. Accept that it could be a long haul. They're the very basic foundations of the game, and just because you're playing a virtual world, it doesn't mean you don't have to be careful. For example, when it gets to 4th & 3, be prepared to punt; just get rid of the ball, don't pretend you're a superhero because you want another throw of the football, just be patient and get your defence firing. The same goes for two-point conversions, just relax. If the opposition is building momentum, remain patient and calm. Just stick to your plan and you'll get the ball back. The same on the other side of the ball, if you're having a barren spell with the QB, don't resort to hurling the ball 50 yards downfield or wildly flinging it to any man you can see. In case of emergency, go back to basics and get some short passes nailed. Once you've got that sorted, build momentum and lengthen your throws.
