Mass Effect: Ranking Every Main Squad Member In The Original Trilogy
1. Garrus Vakarian
Whether he's your awkward love interest or your sniping brother-in-arms, Garrus is the closest thing to Shepard's archetypal best friend and companion. A member of the Normandy crew for all three games, Garrus feels like a genuine support system and ally for Shepard to rely on throughout the trilogy.
As a member of the Turian species, Garrus has extensive military training and is a strategic expert. Watching him become notorious as the vigilante Archangel on Omega felt like a natural progression for a crusader like Garrus. He is sarcastic to the point where he'll quip in the face of danger to lighten the mood but he is suitably lethal where you have no choice but to take him seriously.
More than any other entry on this list, you will select Garrus for a mission no matter which game it is. As they experience more adventure and danger together, Garrus' history with Shepard grows which only enriches the relationship between the two.
He had a great look even before a near fatal explosion scarred his face, but Garrus would joke about his appearance even then just to show that he'd never lose that wit. Regardless of whether he's in the middle of some calibrations or not, Garrus is the best squad mate in all of Mass Effect.
