The overall mentality going into "re-touching" these beloved titles was one of love and reverence, from the way Mac and the team spoke.

They didn't want to change anything that would remove what Mass Effect felt like, but also wanted to elevate aspects of the production in a way that would make iconic set-pieces and environments pop.

As such, we were shown various shots of locations like Eden Prime and Feros, where the team have made noticeable changes to background detail or the tone of scenes themselves.

One prominent example is placing the sun behind Sovereign in the opening of Mass Effect 1, so the ship's heft and dominance comes through far more directly in that iconic scene.

Another is adding a ton of destroyed buildings to the skyline of Feros while you explore in the Mako, emphasising the civil unrest that just happened before you arrived.

It'll be interesting to see whether actual pathing through these levels still retains a "corridor"-like nature, but either way, the visuals of the remake are noticeable and welcome.
