Metal Gear Solid 6: 10 Ways To Make It Work Without Kojima

7. Frank Jaeger - From Null To Grey Fox

Metal Gear Rising proved that the fiction of this universe has within it enough narrative pull to be interesting no matter what, although it didn't hurt that Platinum Games always create the best third-person action games around.

Grey Fox was an unlockable skin in that game, but to give him the proper Metal Gear treatment, you'd have to adapt his backstory as both the CIA experiment-gone-awry Null, and his bond with Naomi after killing her parents.

For the most part it's very hard to do prequel stories and give them any emotional weight, as the audience always knows where things are heading. However when it comes to Grey Fox/Null, there's a ton of motive and introspection left untouched. He talks of the glory of battle and facing Snake on that minefield in the first game, but where does that desire really come from? Kojima flirted with the notion of child soldiers through characters like Fox, Liquid Snake and Raiden, and made it a key plot point in MGS V, yet we've never had those themes done justice in anything more than a protracted Codec conversation.

Plus, y'know, unlockable acrobatic and stealth upgrades, alongside different blade types and brutal stealth kills? MGS Special Missions had Fox as a proper playable character in all his throat-severing glory, and it was awesome.
