Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain - 9 Big Questions It Should've Answered (But Didn't)

6. Everything About Gray Fox

The omission of Gray Fox entirely in The Phantom Pain is almost inexcusable when you think about how easy it would have been to introduce the character in this instalment. Even if you exclude Portable Ops, which already established and set up the Big Boss and Gray Fox dynamic, the inclusion of the character in V would have been the perfect opportunity to establish one of the series' longest lingering threads. The franchise has already established that Gray Fox and Naomi Hunter were operating in Africa in the 80s, and as a result, fans quite rightly expected to bump into the characters in some form during the course of the new game's story. With the locations and the decade matching up so perfectly, it seemed obvious that either Gray Fox or Naomi would play into MGS V's narrative at some point. Of course, it wasn't to be, and both fan-favourites were nowhere to be found.
