5. Why Big Boss Returns To Foxhound

Another major plot point The Phantom Pain chose to ignore was why Big Boss, a man notorious for having no allegiance to any nation after the events of MGS3, goes back to lead the USA-developed Foxhound. Considering the ambiguous ending of The Phantom Pain and Foxhound's critical role in the original Metal Gear, MGSV gave nothing concrete to explain why Big Boss would get himself involved with the organisation all over again. Sure, he was one of the main figures who helped create it in the first place, but why would he leave in the first place, help facilitate Diamond Dogs, and then suddenly decide to take back up his old position? It's a mystery The Phantom Pain never even remotely touches on.
