Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain - 9 Big Questions It Should've Answered (But Didn't)

7. The Meaning Of The Vol. 2 Tape In Ground Zeroes

One of the biggest mysteries of Ground Zeroes that fans are still speculating over to this day is the unusual tape that can be uncovered while exploring Camp Omega. Titled "Vol. 2" the tape was nothing other than a series of hidden frequencies mimicking the same noises of the MSX operating system. Unfortunately for would-be detectives though, the data included on the disc wasn't entirely comprised of MSX code, and therefore fans hit a wall in trying to decode the tape's hidden messages. Going into The Phantom Pain everyone thought that the answer to the tape, or at the very least a "Vol. 1" explaining the significance of the messages, would be found at some point. The cassette in Ground Zeroes was supposed to contain some sort of vital information that would tie in with the two games, however with no explanation to be found so far in The Phantom Pain, it's looking like fans are going to be in the dark about this particular Kojima oddity for a while. Even worse, the end of MGS V shows Big Boss playing a tape from "The Man Who Sold The World", and the B-side of that cassette also plays out in MSX frequencies similar to the original Ground Zeroes tape. Unfortunately, the scene only served to shroud this unanswered mystery in even more confusion and uncertainty.
