Mortal Kombat: 10 Crazy Things You Didn’t Know

5. The Strange Connection Between Johnny Cage & Guile

If you enjoyed the previous connection between Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, guess what? There's more where that came from! One particularly notable example is this bizarre link that connects the character of Johnny Cage to Street Fighter's Guile.

It's no secret that MK's beloved Johnny Cage is modelled directly after Jean-Claude Van Damme. The franchise began as a video game adaptation of his movie Universal Soldier, and Van Damme's influence stuck around even after it switched to being an original IP.

Despite being directly modelled after him, Van Damme has never played the character in any live-action project. He is however (finally) providing the voice for a special Johnny skin in MK1.

On top of his connection to MK, he also played Street Fighter's Guile in the 1994 movie adaptation. Still, it might surprise you to know that Damme isn't the only actor to have connections to both characters.

Joel McHale, known to many as Jeff Winger from the sitcom Community, voices Johnny Cage in the Mortal Kombat Legends movies. Additionally, he played Guile in an episode of the web series Street Fighter Red Tape, made by Peter Holmes.

That's two popular actors with ties to two of the same characters from rival fighting franchises. What are the odds?
