5. Martin Riggs

Martin Riggs is the aggressive, suicidal Police Sergeant and partner of Sergeant Roger Murtaugh from the Lethal Weapon franchise. Played by Mel Gibson, Riggs is a perfect foil to Murtaugh, played by Danny Glover, who is a more by the book cop. The pair eventually become close friends, with both Gibson and Glover reprising their roles in three sequels.

Depending on when in the Lethal Weapon timeline NetherRealm Studios would choose, Riggs is a wildly different character. His more aggressive and even vengeful nature seen in Lethal Weapon 2, in which he is forced to confront the truth about the death of his wife, could fit well into Mortal Kombat 11.

Various Mortal Kombat characters already have this vengeful mindset, for example Shao Kahn and Kotal Kahn. Riggs’s more jokey and humorous side could also be played off of characters like Robocop and the Special Forces characters, similar to Riggs relationship with Murtaugh.

While Mel Gibson’s performance is certainly the more iconic version of the character, Clayne Crawford portrayed the character in the Lethal Weapon television show which aired from 2016 to 2018.

While this version of the character would be less iconic to the classic movie portrayal, the television show being in recent memory could make the character more identifiable to modern audiences.
