Mortal Kombat 11: 10 Action Hero Guest Characters We Want
6. Billy Lo/Hai Tien
If Chuck Norris is considered the greatest western martial artist of all time, Bruce Lee would certainly be considered as the greatest eastern martial artist of all time. His three most famous films, 1972’s The Way of the Dragon, 1973’s Enter the Dragon and 1978’s Game of Death, are all iconic in their own right.
While Mr. Lee, Bruce Lee’s character from Enter the Dragon, has a very iconic appearance due to the wounds he receives from the villainous Han in the films climax, nothing is more recognisable than seeing Lee donning the classic yellow jumpsuit from Game of Death. This has become an icon of martial arts in film, being referenced in Kill Bill: Volume 1. Here, Uma Thurman’s ‘The Bride’ wears a similarly coloured outfit for the films climactic battle.
Due to Bruce Lee’s untimely death during production of Game of Death, there are multiple versions of the film to exist. The original 1973 cut, released on DVD in 2000, Lee portrays Hai Tien, while in the version released in 1978, he plays Billy Lo.
Despite this, both versions of the film use some of the same footage. Bruce Lee is the inspiration for numerous fighting game characters, such as Street Fighter’s Fei Long, Tekken’s Marshall Law and Mortal Kombat’s own Liu Kang. This inclusion would be the ultimate tribute to the martial arts master.
