New York cop turned Christmastime action hero, John McClane is the character portrayed by Bruce Willis in the 1988 film Die Hard. In the film, McClane happens to find himself inside Nakatomi Plaza, Los Angeles, during a heist by German terrorist Hans Gruber, played by Alan Rickman. McClane tasks himself with taking down the terrorists and saving his wife, Holly, who has been taken as one of the hostages.

Willis reprised the role in four sequels, with each putting McClane in similar situations to the first film and setting him against a host of villains. Similarly to Riggs from Lethal Weapon, the numerous sequels would give NetherRealm Studios a variety of choices regarding which point in the McClane’s timeline they adapted.

The easiest way would be to adapt the more recent incarnations of the character seen in 2007’s Die Hard 4.0 and 2013’s A Good Day to Die Hard. By this point in the film series, McClane’s character is much more weathered while still being every much a capable action hero as the previous films.

The earlier incarnation seen in the first three movies is the most iconic version of the character, with a more humorous personality which could also play off the cast of Mortal Kombat 11.
