2006's Mortal Kombat: Armageddon brought back every character in the series which made for an impressive roster. To show just how huge the game was, the opening cutscene features a large-scale war between the forces of light and darkness in the original timeline's final battle.

We get to see heroes such as Li Mei get stabbed by Hotaru while Kung Lao and Baraka face off in aerial kombat, an actual feature in the game. We also get your expected match-ups from Scorpion versus Sub Zero to Raiden battling Shinnok.

Things escalate further when the Pyramid of Argus rises. At the top of the structure is a prize that grants anyone unlimited power. Naturally, this leads to every character racing to the top from Stryker sucker punching Mileena to Johnny Cage pushing Sonya Blade off the pyramid.

We even get the undead Liu Kang face off against Shang Tsung, who had killed him games prior. Eventually, Blaze rises from the pyramid and serves as Armageddon's final boss.

What made this opening so impressive is how dense it is as eagle-eyed players could spot others duking it out in the background. At the same time, it was a visually stunning spectacle even for a 2006 game.
