Mortal Kombat 30th Anniversary: 10 Greatest Story Moments Ever
4. Onaga's Deception - Mortal Kombat: Deception
In Mortal Kombat: Deception, players were put in the shoes of Shujinko in the game's Konquest Mode. A young fighter eager to join the Mortal Kombat tournament, he is visited by a being called Damashi who recruits the boy into collecting the six Kamidogu.
He also receives the power to learn the fighting techniques of skilled warriors as he ventures out to find the items.
Shujinko's journey takes him to the six realms, namely Earthrealm, Outworld, Netherrealm, Chaosrealm, Orderrealm, and Edenia. At the same time, he encounters legendary Mortal Kombat characters throughout history and learns from them.
But despite the simplicity of his objective, his quest takes him an entire lifetime to accomplish, and when we get to the end of the game, Shujinko has become an old man. It makes it even more painful, then, when we learn Damashi has been lying to him all this time.
The being is revealed to be Onaga, the Dragon King of Outworld. Years ago, he was betrayed by Shao Kahn but with the Kamidogu, he manages to be reborn in his own realm. For Shujinko, this means wasting his entire life believing he had served the Elder Gods, only to find out he has brought a dangerous conquerer back to power.
